Back in the Saddle Again

Yesterday, I went back to work on the phones. I am set for a 6-day run. I will drink non-calorie beverages until my blood sugar is under control.

I’m not hungry at all.

I spend my spare time listening to podcasts. Here is one of the best:

The Musical Genius of Patsy Cline: Reshaping Country Music for Female Artists

Few artists have had the enduring impact on country music that Patsy Cline has achieved. With a career that spanned a mere decade, Cline’s influence can still be felt in every corner of the genre, particularly among female artists.

Her vocal prowess, passionate delivery, and groundbreaking choices defined her as a musical genius and a beacon for those following her footsteps.

From her earliest recordings, it was clear that Patsy Cline was special. Her rich and soulful voice conveyed an emotion that resonated deeply with listeners.

This innate ability to tap into the heart of a song that set her apart from her contemporaries.

Whether she was singing about the heady rush of new love or the aching heartbreak of a love lost, Cline’s voice carried an authenticity that transcended the recording studio, making listeners feel like she was singing directly to them.

But it wasn’t just Cline’s vocal talent that made her a genius. It was also her innovative approach to the country music genre. In an era where female artists were often relegated to the sidelines, Cline carved out a space for herself in the spotlight.

She pushed boundaries, experimenting with production techniques and incorporating pop and gospel elements into her music. This blending of styles gave her songs a timeless quality, allowing them to appeal to a broad audience beyond just country fans.

Songs like “Crazy” and “I Fall to Pieces” showcase this cross-genre appeal with their lush orchestral arrangements and pop sensibilities.

Cline’s ability to straddle the line between traditional country and the burgeoning pop movement of the 1960s opened doors for future female artists in the country genre.

She showed that women could take the lead, to be the star of the show, and do so without compromising their roots. In a male-dominated industry, this was no small feat.

Her fashion choices also signaled a departure from the norm. With her glamorous stage outfits and signature red lips, Cline projected an image of sophistication and confidence in stark contrast to the demure, down-home image often expected of female country singers of the era.

This boldness in her appearance and her musical innovations made Cline a trendsetter in every sense.

However, what truly solidified Patsy Cline’s legacy and influence on future generations of female country artists was the sisterhood she fostered with other women in the industry. Stories of her mentorship of younger artists like Loretta Lynn and Dottie West speak to her generosity of spirit and belief in lifting up other women.

This camaraderie among female artists in country music can still be seen today, with many of today’s top stars citing Cline as a major influence, both musically and in terms of her pioneering spirit.

Tragically, Patsy Cline’s life was cut short in a plane crash in 1963 at 30. But in her brief time in the spotlight, she managed to reshape the landscape of country music for female artists.

Today, when we see the successes of female country stars, from Dolly Parton to Reba McEntire to Carrie Underwood, we can trace a line back to the trail blazed by Patsy Cline.

Her musical genius left an indelible mark on the genre and laid the groundwork for the generations of female artists that followed in her wake.

My sugar is way up today. I am giving away all carbs I can. After the fast, I will go carnivore for a few days.

High blood sugar makes me tired.

During this time, I will use up as many products as possible and start giving away stuff I don’t use.

It’s time to practice poverty and to go minimalist.
